Hi,

I travelled to Buenos Aires about 2 months ago to have two implants done. A friend of mine had recommended to go to Dr Pelcman's office. He has done a great job with my teeth, apart from being very kind, and speaking excellent english. I'm sure he might do bleaching treatments as well. His web page is www.dentalesimplantes.com.ar, and his phone number is (+54) 11 4821 9070, in Palermo.

Good luck with that!

Hola

One confusion:
When you say white taxis, do you mean remises? Is it possible to book in advance?

Also, my hostel is asking me for $130 Argentinian pesos for airport pick up. Is that a bit of a rip-off?

Thanks in advance

We want to bring our two Sheltie's to Buenos Aires in January 1-2-3 2010 through March 31, 2010. They are both about 10yrs old and in excellent health. One is 14-lbs, one 19-lbs.We would most likely come by Delta and would be staying in the Recoleta area, if we can find an apartment with two bedrooms and two baths which will accept dogs. We want to come this fall to find a place and have all the necessary paperwork for the trip in January 2010. Who would you suggest we contact to first find a place, second find someone who speaks English who could assure us we have done everything correctly to bring the two Shelties in January. Third, I need high speed internet to conduct my business in the USA and reliable international phone service in the apartment we would lease. If you can direct us to a party who might be able to help us it will greatly appreciated.

Hi...

Thanks for all the info about teaching in Buenos Aires. It's pretty much what I expected to hear although I must say I was a little surprised to hear that most teaching institutes do not treat teachers very well. I'm interested in teaching in Buenos Aires for just a few months. I'm an elementary school teacher, have no experience teaching ESL though, and am wanting to do it more for the experience. I was wondering if institutes will hire you if you want to commit to only about 3 or 4 months. I would even consider volunteering but would rather not go through one of those programs where I have to pay for them to find a placement for me. Does anyone know if there are many volunteer opportunities at elementary schools?

Thanks!

Hi Nick,

I am an ESL teacher in California and have been one for the last 14 years. I am currently getting my MATESOL at San Francisco State University and want to teach in Argentina at some point, and then come back here!

What kind of money can I make with my experience and with a Masters in TESOL, and where can I work?

Can you point me in a direction as far as looking for jobs in Argentina while still in the states? Can you direct me to any good websites for this?

Thanks so much for your help!

I am trying to get info on what I need to do to bring a cat from Argentina to the U.S. - Your info has been very helpful - are there any recent updates? It sounds like all the cat needs is the rabies vaccines.

Many thanks.

Wow! I signed up for the EBC Tefl course (starting on the 20th) and I certainly wished I had read this first. Thank you so much for this information. My goal was to go to Asia or Brazil anyway, but now, I am already putting the word out. I am here now, and have been here before, but you are so right on certain things i.e. - the food - you want to eat something other than parilla - you better learn how to cook. You can find chile peppers in most vegetable stands, but if you come from someplace diverse oh - like California - pack all of the Asian/Indian/Mexican (oh - mexican food) products you can. You can buy clothes once you get here, but tortillas or coconut milk - phsst - good luck.

I know an excellent dentist who works in both downtown Buenos Aires and the suburb San Isidro.

His speaks English, has been a dentist for more than 20+ years and very reasonable.

You can certainly call him or email him regarding the prices and check this out yourself. You will be amazed how reasonable it is for an excellent dental care in Buenos Aires. For implants, he works with another dentist so you will have 2 dentists working on you (as the law in Argentina does not allow dental assistants for this), but the cost is still so much less than what I paid in the US and UK.

Here's his info.
